2008 Summit for Leadership
MTNA Leaders Attend Summit
The 11th annual Summit for MTNA Leadership was held in Cincinnati, Ohio, September 5–7, 2008. Nearly 100 MTNA leaders, including state and division presidents, state and division directors-elect, program chairs and the board of directors, attended the weekend of education, motivation and networking.
Christine Bates, a licensed psychiatrist and former piano teacher, started things off by making a presentation about the Enneagram, a model of personality differences. This session helped attendees understand themselves and others, as well as the dynamics of professional and personal relationships.
Other sessions included a Town Hall Meeting moderated by Executive Director Gary Ingle; a mock board meeting led by Phyllis Pieffer, NCTM, registered parliamentarian and director of membership development; and an overview of the 2009 MTNA National Conference by Conference Committee Chair Kenneth Christensen, NCTM. Additional sessions gave the leadership the opportunity to meet, share ideas and reflect on the content of the plenary sessions.
The planning committee for the Summit included Ann Gipson, NCTM, chair, MTNA president-elect; Charles Jones, NCTM, South Central Division director-elect; Marianne Bryan, NCTM, West Central Division director-elect; Ethel Iwasaki, Southwest Division director-elect; Richard Scott, NCTM, Southern Division director-elect; Peter Mack, NCTM, Northwest Division director-elect; and Diane Birr, Eastern Division director-elect.
